On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, Brian H. Woodhead passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Yorkshire, England, he completed his early education and graduated from Leeds University in Physiotherapy. He came to Edmonton in 1953 to work as a physiotherapist during the polio epidemic.
In 1955 he enrolled in Medicine at the University of Alberta, graduating in 1961. During that time he was the trainer for the Edmonton Eskimo football team. Following graduation he specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. At the conclusion of his training he joined the WCB Rehabilitation Clinic until 1970 when he was employed by the Glenrose Hospital, serving as its Director until he retired in 1986.
He was predeceased by his parents in England and is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Bette. In keeping with Brian’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations, if so desired may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
