D.J. was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doreen (nee Bell), in February 1997, and his beloved daughter, Sandra, in February 2005.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Sharon, Ann Marie, and Brenda McNeil (Mark Laroche), his grandchildren Maclean (Carissa) and Kathryn Shanks, Shane and Ashley Somani, and Grayson Laroche, and his great-grandchildren Oakley Somani, Paisley and Blakely Shanks.
He served in the RCAF for 20 years and worked at Atomic Energy of Canada (medical products) for 15 years in the Ottawa area.
He moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in 1991 and, in 1997, he became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Strathcona Branch 150 after the death of his wife, and later transferred to the Kingsway Legion.
A private family visitation will be held at the Hainstock Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 9810 34 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta. Interment will be at Capital Memorial Gardens in Ottawa, Ontario.
