Born in Poland in 1925, Donna carried the resilience of her heritage and the warmth of her culture throughout her century of life. Having grown up during the difficult years of WWII, she married after the war and had five children in Poland with her husband, John. The family emigrated to Canada in 1962 to establish a new life, later welcoming one more child to complete their family.
While her name was Danusza, she was known simply as "Babcia" to everyone who knew her. To enter Babcia’s home was to be fed; she possessed a legendary hospitality, ensuring no guest ever crossed her threshold without a meal being placed before them. Her kitchen and her garden were the heart of her world, and her greatest joy was ensuring everyone around her was well-cared for. When not at home, her adventures took her around the world, including many trips back to her homeland of Poland, as well as Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Caribbean, Israel, and the United States.
Donna is now reunited with her beloved husband, John; her daughter, Donna; and the siblings who passed before her. Her legacy of tradition and unwavering spirit lives on through her children: Richard (Georgina), Krystyna, Jack (Donna), Barbara, Theresa (Vratya), and Tony (Cathy); as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be forever missed by a community that will always remember her naleśniki and her open heart.
