May 14, 1971 – January 14, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Dwayne Allan Roy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, and friend, who left us far too soon while doing the work he took great pride in. Born in Edmonton on May 14, 1971, Dwayne passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2026.
Dwayne’s wife, Heather, was the love of his life and his best friend. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a devoted and proud father to his three children, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally, and a cherished grandfather who treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren.
Dwayne found joy in the simple pleasures of life: spending time at the trailer, gathering around bonfires with a drink in hand, and welcoming friends and neighbors with his familiar saying, “The gate (patio) is always open.” He had a lifelong passion for cars, trucks, and heavy equipment, and could often be found in the garage, working with his hands.
Woodworking and creating were among his greatest passions. Dwayne built beds, toy chests, tables and chairs, bars and bar tops, and many other pieces for his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and coworkers. Each creation was crafted not just from wood and steel, but from love, care, and pride, forming a lasting legacy.
Dwayne is lovingly remembered by his wife, Heather Roy; his children, Brittnee Reid (Allan Reid), Shalynn Smart (Carl Smart), and AJ Roy; and his grandchildren, Samaya Smart, Rilynn Reid, Carson Smart; his mother-in-law, Joanne Smith, along with a large circle of close friends who have been like family. He is also survived by his mother, Linda Roy, sister Shannon Lush (Jason Lush) and brother Keith Roy.
He was predeceased by his father, Allan Roy, and his father-in-law, Jerry Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at
Hainstock’s Funeral Home
9810 34 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 6L1
Dwayne’s sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his spirit lives on in the stories shared around fires, the open gates, the hum of an engine, his jokes and laughter, and the family and friends who will forever carry his love with them. He will be remembered for his big heart, his kindness, his willingness to always lend a helping hand, and the steady, comforting presence he was to so many. Though his time with us was cut short, the legacy of love he leaves behind will endure and continue to live on in every life he touched.
