We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Efren Cruz de Jesus who passed away peacefully in his home on August 11, 2026 at the age of 77 after his struggle with cancer.
Efren (also known as “David”) was born on February 4, 1949 in Manila, Philippines.
Efren graduated from the University of the East in Philippines as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. After immigrating to Canada, he worked as a head custodian for the Edmonton Public School Board until his retirement. Efren was a faithful Roman Catholic and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. Efren spent his retirement years as a member of the Filipino Senior Citizens Association (FSCA), a caregiver to his wife until her passing in 2018, and as a loving Lolo to his 4 grandchildren.
Efren Sr. was preceded in death by his wife Cristina & his son Brian.
He is survived by his sisters Lilian Esther Lim & Marilyn Narnola, and brothers Leopoldo de Jesus & Erwin de Jesus. He leaves behind his 5 children: Michelle (Gordon), Winchester, Cheryl (Sherman) Chan, Jason de Jesus, Efren Jr. de Jesus, & Edwin de Jesus, along with grandchildren: Penelope, Clara, Hailey, and Augustus.
A Visitation for Efren will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 6 - 8pm (Light refreshments will be available) at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB *Livestream will be available at the time of service - please find "Join Livestream" link below under "Services"*
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 1 pm at St. John Bosco Parish, 13503 40 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta with a Funeral Procession to Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum after Mass.
