It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Emily Espey. She passed away peacefully in her home in St. Albert, Alberta on September 17th, 2026 with her family by her side.
Emily was born on October 3rd, 1943 in Cardale, Manitoba. Emily grew up on the family farm along with her 12 siblings. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 16 where she met the love of her life, Ron. They married in 1961 and welcomed daughters Kim (1963) and Deborah (1968) before relocating to Alberta in 1970.
Before venturing to work outside of the home, she was a proud stay at home Mother, raising her daughters until they went to school. Emily had successful careers working at Sears and Medis.
In retirement, Emily and Ron enjoyed 12 years as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona. Over the years they made great friendships that they treasured and considered their second family.
Emily‘s greatest love was her family. She cherished every moment spent with them. Family was her heart, greatest joy, and the most important part of her life. Whether it was playing cards, watching the grandchildren’s sports, hosting family dinners, or a lesson in baking - her joy was infectious and her love was felt by everyone.
Emily could always be found with a crossword puzzle in one hand and a bingo dabber in the other. She was able to play multiple bingo cards, have conversations and enjoy a snack all at the same time without missing a number.
Emily had a special place in her heart for dogs. She was a grandma to many of our family furry friends over the years and during her visits they would never leave her side.
Emily enjoyed holiday traditions including family dinners, making homemade pierogies and cabbage rolls as well as Christmas baking. These are the things her family will continue to celebrate and pass down through future generations.
Emily will be remembered by all for her beautiful smile, kindness and gentle soul. She leaves behind her daughters Kim and Deborah, grandchildren Ryan (Mae), Cory, Danielle (Ryan), Alyssa (Matt), Liam (Zoe), Emelia (Rhys) and 7 great grandchildren. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is at peace and in the loving arms of her husband, Ron, who passed in May of this year.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2027 for both Ron and Emily.
