

On Saturday, 20 Jun 2026 Evelyn Hutchings passed away at the age of 88.
Evelyn was born 27 Feb 1938 in Calgary, AB and adopted by George and Florence Bass of Kleskun Hills. As a young child her family moved to Clairmont where she lived until she married.
She was working in the Clairmont Post Office and General Store when she was introduced to her future husband. On their first date he told her he was going to marry her. She laughed.They married 25 Apr 1958 in Clairmont and were married for 44 years. They began married life in Boundary Lake, B.C., an Imperial Oil Camp. During their marriage they moved to Peace River, Dawson Creek and Gibbons.
Evelyn loved to travel and visited five of seven continents.
Evelyn was involved with Air Cadets since 1974, first as a member of the 524 Sturgeon Parent Committee, then the Alberta Air Cadet League. She was a Life Member of the Alberta Air Cadet League, and in 2017 received the Air Cadet League Service Medal with a gold bar recognizing her 40+ years of service. In 2018 a stone was placed in her honour at the Aviation Memorial in front of the Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton recognizing her contributions to the Alberta Air Cadet League. Evelyn remained active with the League until her death.
She was a member of the 700 (City of Edmonton) Wing RCAF Association and a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Gibbons Branch #226.
Evelyn enjoyed an active social life and was a member of Gibbons TOPS/KOPS, Gibbons Twilight Club, the Esso Annuitant Club, and past member of the Red Hat Society and North Edmonton Seniors Association.
Above all else, family was most important to her. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Edna Hutchings, Carolyne Hutchings, Corrine Hutchings (Samantha{Mitchell McCrady}), daughter-in-law Kathy Hutchings (sons Taylor and Jordan), son-in-law Wayne Johnson (son Evan, and daughters Emily and Beth{Brad and daughter Isla}), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Murray “Roy” Hutchings, daughter Colleen Johnson and son Fred Hutchings.
