Fred was born on November 6, 1953, to David E. Dave and Corazon de Vera Dave in Baguio City, Benguet, Philippines. He was fifth amongst six siblings with Daniel, Rebecca, Solomon, Evangeline, and Julius. As a young boy, Fred was a talented singer and competed in amateur singing contests.
For many years, Fred worked as an electronic alarm maintenance personnel at the San Miguel U.S. Naval Communication Station located in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines until 1992, when the United States turned over the base to the Philippine government.
On June 27, 1981, Fred married Lilia at the local parish in Dinalupihan, Bataan, Philippines. Their daughter, Michelle, was born in 1982, and their son, Jonathan, was born in 1985. The whole family immigrated to Canada in 1993. Their relatives, the Cruz family, graciously helped them get settled in Edmonton. Fred worked at Sinclair Supply Ltd for the rest of the decade and then at IMPARK at Edmonton International Airport as a shuttle bus driver until 2020.
Fred then enjoyed the carefree life as a retired senior. He avidly immersed himself in his much-loved hobby of remote-control (RC) airplanes.
He will be best remembered by his generosity in spirit, gentle kindness, and cheerfulness. With a truly hearty appetite, Fred kind-heartedly shared that love of delicious food with others.
Most importantly, as a grandfather, Fred is affectionately called as “Lolo ‘theart.”
He is survived and missed by his loving wife Lilia; daughter Michelle, son-in-law Emil, granddaughter Emily; son Jon, daughter-in-law Coritha, infant granddaughter Kamia, good-boy dog Koby; older sister Evangeline Agustin, younger brother Julius Dave, along with nephews, nieces, and their respective families (in the Philippines, New York, Quebec, and Italy); as well as step-mother Rosaline Fe Dave, step-sister Doris Dave Flores and family, and step-brother David Dave (in Long Beach, California).
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and special acknowledgement to the medical care staff at Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Ulan Dialysis Unit all located at the University of Alberta Hospital; DATS; Strathcona RC Flyers Association; Strathcona County RCMP and EPS. The Daves are forever grateful to the entire Cruz clan in the United States and abroad for all their comforting care and charitable gifts. Thank you wholeheartedly to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and support for Fred and Family.
