Dr. Gerald Lynn Shandro

IN THE CARE OF

Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium

1945 - 2024

It is with profound and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Gerald Lynn Shandro of Edmonton on November 14th, 2024.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife Ning, his step-daughter Xiaoliang (and her son Correntin), his brother Wayne (Gail), and by 5 nieces and nephews; Leon, Leslie (Peter), Michael, Alexandra (Tash) and Christopher (Mischi). Gerald was predeceased by his father Sidor Shandro, his mother Katie Shandro and by his sister Olivia Sadownik.

Gerald grew up in the Willingdon, Alberta area. He was an excellent student and graduated with his medical degree from the University of Alberta and later completed his Neurosurgery training at the University of Columbia, Missouri, USA. Gerald lived and practised as a Neurosurgeon in Kamloops, BC until 1996. After leaving his Neurosurgery practise in Kamloops he returned to Edmonton where professionally, he assisted with general surgeries on a part-time basis until he retired.

Gerald always had a love and interest in the Chinese language and culture and he frequently volunteered to teach English as a second language to new Chinese Canadians.

Gerald was a very skilled surgeon who dedicated over 30 years of his life to his career, but on a personal level he was a kind, genuine and modest man. To his family, he was a wonderful son and brother, a loving husband, stepfather and proud grandfather. He loved his family very much and his family will always cherish his memories.

In accordance with Gerald's wishes, there was no funeral or memorial service which was open to the general public.
