Gerard Michael Murray

Gerard was the youngest of 18 siblings whose life was shaped around love, laughter, strength and stubbornness. At the young age of 17, Gerard headed west to Alberta, where he worked tirelessly in the oilfields, making his path through hard work and determination. Never one to shy away from a challenge, in 1997 Gerard pursued his dream of owning and operating Murray’s Trucking, a business that he built that reflected his unwavering work ethic, determination and willingness to help others.

While Gerard took great pride in his work and the business that he built, his greatest accomplishment was being a devoted father to his children, Margot and Gerard, who were the pride and joy of his life. His greatest hope in life was to provide for them and leave them with a legacy that valued kindness and hard work, and above all the love of family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and was incredibly proud of the people that they have become.

Gerard had a generous heart that knew no limits. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer support, or very quietly help someone while never expecting anything in return. The number of lives that Gerard touched will likely never be fully known by those left behind, but the hope that his kindness and support that he shared will live on through those who were lucky enough to know and love him. The countless acts of kindness and the many lives that he touched is a testament to the person he was raised and aspired to be.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength but strong voice, his sense of humour and hearty laugh, his generosity, his fierce independence and his stubborn but compassionate way that he lived his life.

His passing will leave an immeasurable void in the hearts of his children, his siblings, his family, friends, coworkers and all the people who he met along the way. Gerard deserved to live a long and happy life to enjoy with all of those that he loved in his favourite place.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all healthcare professionals who cared for him during his short battle. The kindness and compassion during his illness will not be forgotten.

Gerard was predeceased by his father Michael Murray, and mother Loretta Murray, both of Marystown, NL, his brothers, Tom Murray, Joe Murray, John Murray, Tim Murray, Gord Murray, Frank (Francis) Murray, and Ray Murray and his sisters Bride Hennebury and Regina Brake.

He leaves behind with fond and loving memories his children, Margot and Gerard Murray and by their mother, Chantal Geoffrion, with whom he shared many years of family life and a successful business; along with his brothers, Mike (Norma), Jim (Cathy) and Larry (Gladys), his sisters Mary Ledwith, Marg (Reg) Isaacs, Helen (Art) Fitzpatrick, Vera Miles and Essie Kean, sisters in law Gladys Murray, Majorie Murray and (Mimi) Murray, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and coworkers, and all of those that had the privilege of knowing him.

Although his journey has ended far too soon, Gerard leaves behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and generosity. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the memories made and the lives he touched along the way."

Viewing will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB, on August 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on August 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
