

It is with God’s grace that the family announces the passing of our beloved, Sardar Gurinder Singh Dhaliwal, on August 4, 2021. Gurinder transitioned peacefully at his home in Edmonton and was surrounded by his three children, Amandeep, Sangeet, and Zoravar.
Gurinder was a loving father and spouse, family member, and friend. He was a hard-working and kind man known for his supportive nature and deep family values. He advocated for unity and strength as being the foundation for family and through that, was a strong supporter of family achieving their successes. Gurinder embodied a daily spirit of chardi kala (eternal optimism).
Gurinder was born in Rajgarh Kubbe in Bathinda, Punjab. He enjoyed growing up in the village and often shared childhood memories and family history. He valued education and spent years in university in both India and Canada. He earned his BSc in Agriculture from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur, Rajasthan. He received a full scholarship and completed his Masters at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) in Ludhiana, Punjab. In 1970, he started his PhD in Veterinary Medicine at UP Agriculture University, Pant Nagar, but left the university early to move to Canada in 1971. After settling in Edmonton, Alberta, Gurinder attended the University of Alberta, studying in the field of biochemistry.
Gurinder immigrated to Canada in 1971 and cultivated friendships, fostered a community and raised a family in Edmonton over the last 50 years. As a long-time resident of Edmonton, he was well known within the city across various professional and personal circles. Professionally, he spent the last 40 years in the residential real-estate and life insurance communities. He loved people and had the ability to engage in conversation and connect with anyone he encountered. He had a strong work ethic with a positive, enterprising attitude.
