

Gurmeet Kaur Sraon was born on January 15th, 1954 in the village of Gharachon, Punjab to the parents Hardev Singh Ghuman and Mukhtiar Kaur Ghuman. She was the eldest of 5 children. She was educated in her village of Gharachon and married on June 25th, 1973 to Ranjit Singh Sraon. She had 4 children, Rupinderjit Kaur, Gursimarjit Kaur, Kuljit Kaur, and Harpreet Singh. She accompanied him while raising her children around the various states of India as her husband worked with the Indian Airforce. Together they moved back to Niamatpur, Punjab as they settled into their life there in 1984. They lived there until the year 2000. They moved to Penticton in October 2000, but she wanted to move closer to her extended family. She relocated to Edmonton in January 2001 where this eventually became her forever home.
One of the most important jobs she held was raising her children and grandchildren, though Gurmeet had many skills. She shined in the kitchen. She was well known for her culinary skills and she taught many people as well. She loved to feed others and never let a visitor leave her home without a home cooked meal. She also loved fashion and was well known for her impeccable taste. She was the glue in her family. Her kindness was infectious and she was well known for her heartwarming personality.
She leaves behind her husband Ranjit Singh; children Rupinder Kaur, Gursimarjit Kaur, Kuljit Kaur, and Harpreet Singh; mother, Mukhtiar Kaur; siblings, Narinder Kaur, Jasvir Kaur, Paramjit Singh, and Jarnail Singh and precious 9 grandchildren as well as her other beloved family.
