Hazel Jane Jones

Hazel Jones was born on a Sunday evening at the Old Fort Hospital in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan on May 20, 1928. She is the second child of Henry and Elizabeth Chesney. Hazel grew up in the Strathallen area and attended Coal Creek School until grade 10. Hazel helped her folks on the farm until she married James Jones on July 5, 1952. From this union there was 4 boys and 1 girl.

Hazel was predeceased by her son, Robbie Jones, by drowning in June 1963; her husband, James Jones in July 1981 from cancer; her father, Henry Chesney in October 1981, from heart failure; her mother, Elizabeth Chesney in January 1989, from heart failure; her brother, James Chesney in June 2008, from cancer; her common-law husband, Ron Dickson in October 2015. Hazel is survived by her son, Ben Jones; daughter, Alice (Brad) Smith; son, Tim (Tina) Jones; son, John (Jocelyn) Jones; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandsons; 5 great granddaughters; many nieces, nephews as well as many friends.

Hazel enjoyed gardening and her many flowers. She always had a huge garden which always brought her joy. She will be remembered for the many zucchinis she gave away. She made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also liked to sing in the choir at church. She belonged to the Senior’s club, the fellowship club and the Weaver’s club. She had many friends at Grand Truck swimming pool where she water jogged and visited most weekdays.

She will be remembered and missed.
