Jay was born and raised in the Galle District of Sri Lanka. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Peradeniya, he continued his studies in England before immigrating to Canada, where he built a life centered around family, education, generosity, and service to others.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 53 years, Chitra; a loving father to Janatha and Samudra; and a cherished father-in-law to Jonice and Deana. He was also an immensely proud grandfather to Nia, Kaasha, Noah, Carter, Malakai, and Lucian.
Jay believed deeply in the power of education and generously helped many children pursue opportunities that might otherwise have been beyond their reach. His generosity extended throughout his family and community. He cared deeply for his extended family and was always ready to help someone in need.
Jay will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the lives he touched. His kindness, generosity, and devotion to family created an impact that will continue through his children, grandchildren, extended family, and the many people whose lives were made better because of him.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
May his memory forever remain a blessing.
