Born on July 21, 1933, in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, dad grew up on the family farm and then moved to Alberta as a young man. He opened a gun shop in Edmonton, did some prospecting in the Yukon, worked for the pulp mill in Hinton, and homesteaded Northeast of Valleyview. John had a lengthy career as a machinist and pursued his hobby of being a collector with passion. John was a member of the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association and The Edmonton Cartridge Collectors Association.
John is survived by daughters Adele and Audrey; grandchildren Daniel (Ashley), Patric and Andrew,
as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor, father Thomas, mother Sarah, sisters Audrey and Theodora, and his brother Joseph.
Dad has been a wonderful father, a loved family man, and a friend to many; he will be deeply missed.
