On February 25, 2014, Krishan Chandra Joshee of Edmonton passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital.
He leaves behind his loving wife Karuna, four children, Rajan (Barb), Rashmi (Marc), Reva, and Rakesh (Lisa), six grandchildren, Reamonn (Bonita), Carn (Kristina), Kael, Gabriel, Daniel, and Anuradha, and two great grandchildren, Sevinn and Tristinn. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Mahavir Agnihotri and Prem Sharma and sisters-in-law, Eleanora Joshi, Shobhana Sharma, and Renu Sharma and several adored nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. And many, many dear and devoted friends.
Krishan was born in Lahore, India and spent much of his youth between Lahore and the family village of Kathgarh. He moved to Canada in 1960 and taught in Spirit River, Alberta until 1967 when he and his family moved to Edmonton. He was a teacher with the Edmonton Catholic Board until his retirement from that profession in 1985. Following his teaching career he was Chair of the Alberta Gaming Commission and then Chair of the Wildrose Foundation.
Outside of his careers he was an active volunteer who was recognized for his service to the community in several ways. He was a recipient of many honours and awards including The Order of Canada, the City of Edmonton Community Service Hall of Fame, and the Stars of Alberta. He touched many lives through this work and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who looked after him over the last 20 years and the amazing staff of Station 5D3 at the University Hospital for their extraordinary care for the last several days of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Hainstock’s Funeral Home in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Inner City Youth Development Association (11205 101 Street, Edmonton, AB T5G 2A5 ).
