Our family is saddened by the passing of Larry Albert Paul, on March 17, 2022 at the age of 81 years. Larry leaves behind his wife, Norma of nearly 59 years, his kids Cheryl Hartman, Vern (Lisa) and Becki (Luke) Bell. He adored his grandkids, Paul (Destiny) Hartman, Alixandria, Eliot Paul and Wade Bell. Larry was born on May 29, 1940. He resided on the family farm in Namao, AB until moving into Edmonton 10 years ago. He attended Alberta College and played football and hockey with the “Huskies” and then off to Vermilion school of Agriculture, where he met Norma. Circumstances forced Larry to take over the family dairy and grain farm but he never complained. In 1987, the dairy was sold off and Larry and his brother bought and operated Namao Transport 1987 LTD. Many hours were spent working, visiting and coffees in the community and surrounding areas. He went from being the milk man to the waterman! Larry was a pillar in the Namao community, volunteering on boards at Namao United Church, Namao Community League, area Air Cadets but most of all, the Namao Volunteer Fire Department, where he rose to Chief. Many events were attended, skating parties at the Namao rink, playing hockey with the “Rusty Blades”, many “firemen balls,” summer breaks at Seba Beach and Jasper. Hanging with the “Dinner party” group, attending Edmonton Eskimo home games, skidooing adventures and winter get-aways in Arizona. Larry took pride in the homestead, cutting a lot of grass, watering raspberries and saskatoons, “Accidentally” rototilling zucchini vines, weeding the vast row of marigolds and occasionally some chain sawing. Many firepit gatherings took place, lit trails of pagoda lights showed the way. Spring was always announced by the return of the geese whom sat atop the barn and elevator, noisily acknowledging their presence. It was a great place to raise the kids, and to be a kid.
At Larry’s request, there will be no funeral. Cremation entrusted to Memories Funeral Home. Memorial donations in Larry’s memory may be made directly to Light & Life c/o Namao United Church and or to the World Wildlife Federation.
