It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Anne Smith, who passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 83.
Louise was born on March 12, 1943, in Fairview, Alberta, to Raphael Pfoh and Annie Dettling. She will be remembered for her love of family, her strong personality, her sense of humour, and the many lives she touched throughout her years.
Louise leaves behind her beloved children, Kevin Smith (Ivy), Gordon Smith (Audrey), and Darren Smith (Valerie), as well as her stepdaughter, Sonja.
She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Sonja, Matthew, Jessica, Jori, Tyler, Lukas, Keshia, Casey, Forest, and Jason, and her great-grandchildren Mateo, Ryker, and Nakita, who brought great joy to her life.
Louise is also survived by her sisters Carol Romaniuk and Loretta Demule (Norman); her brother Robert Pfoh; sister-in-law Sandy Oliver; brother-in-law Hugh Flett, Stan Smith Jr., sister in law Lisa Smith and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Louise was a woman who enjoyed keeping busy and rarely sat on the sidelines. She loved playing and watching curling, playing baseball, and cheering on her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. When it came to local hockey, you could often find Louise in the stands with her trusty cowbell, making sure everyone knew exactly who she was cheering for!
Louise also enjoyed visiting people at her old workplace and keeping up with the people and community she cared about. Over the years, she held numerous positions within the community—and she certainly had strong opinions about every single one of them! If there was a meeting, a decision to be made, or a matter that needed discussing, Louise was never afraid to share her thoughts. She may not have always been asked for her opinion, but that certainly never stopped her from giving it! Her honesty, determination, and colourful personality (and hair) made sure she was never forgotten.
Louise was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Smith; her father-in-law, Stan Smith; brothers-in-law Nester Romaniuk and Tom Oliver; and sisters-in-law Pauline Flett and Rita Pfoh.
Louise will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her laughter, strong opinions, love of sports, and unmistakable presence will live on in the memories of those she leaves behind.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday October 8, 2026 at 2:00pm at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail in Edmonton, Alberta.
