Luzviminda Martinez Espiritu Santos

She was a beloved mother, wife, retired Registered Nurse, and faithful Catholic.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband (Angel T. Santos) and two brothers (Julio Brando and Florentino Espiritu). Luz/Lucy (Luzviminda) was the eldest of ten children and is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nora (Leonora); her three brothers (Restituto Espiritu, Avelino Espiritu and Isagani Espiritu) and four sisters (Perlita Santelices, Floramor Quintao, Evangeline Espiritu and Beaulah Valdez) living in Canada and the Philippines; and extended family.

Known for her gentle spirit, patience, and quiet strength, she dedicated her life to caring for others. Before immigrating to Canada in the early 1970s, she worked as a RN in Public Health in the Philippines. She later served as a RN in Edmonton for more than 25 years, providing compassionate care in a variety of areas, including Maternity. Family was at the heart of her life. She loved outings, and gathering around the table for family dinners. To her daughter, Nora, she was not only a loving mother but also a steadfast protector, offering unconditional love, guidance, and support throughout her life.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nunez, Dr. Barbir, and the Nephrology Team at the University of Alberta Hospital for their compassionate care over the years. As the recipient of a living kidney transplant, she was blessed with precious additional time with her loved ones—a gift for which the family will always be deeply grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Transplant Institute/Give Life Alberta in honour of her life and in recognition of the life-changing gift of organ donation.

She will be remembered for her kindness, humility, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family and her profession. Her legacy of compassion and love will continue to live on in all who knew her.

A Prayer Service will be held at Memories Funeral Home and Crematorium, 13403 St Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB, on July 16, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church, 17511 112 St NW, Edmonton, AB, on July 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm with her being laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, Edmonton, AB.
