Marion’s life journey ended comfortably in her room at Willow Cottage in Edmonton on December 18, 2023 at 97 years of age, with her two sons by her side. Marion was predeceased by her loving husband Ron in 2015 after 64 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents, Edmund and Pearl Peters, her brothers Leonard and Keith and her sister Leola. Marion will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her sons, Bill (and wife Karen) of Denver and Grant (and wife Bonnie Rae) of North Bay, her grandchildren, Pamela (Nick), Colin (Kelly), Daniel (Catherine) of Denver and Douglas of Edmonton, and her great-grandchildren Heidi (7) Drew (5) & Avery (3) of Denver.
Marion’s long life well lived, began on April 9, 1926 in Hanley, SK. There she grew up on the family farm in the depths of the great depression. After grade school she studied Nursing in Saskatoon along with an internship in New Jersey. While working at the Saskatoon City Hospital, she met a handsome patient named Ron. One thing led to another and soon they were married in Jasper AB on May 25, 1951. Ron’s career with CNR took them to Smithers BC where Marion worked as a cook on Ron’s engineering outfit, living in a railway outfit car. The two boys followed shortly thereafter and Marion transitioned to a loving Mom and exceptional homemaker. As a railway wife, moves were frequent with shorter postings to Kamloops, Port Arthur, Vancouver and Saskatoon, followed by multiyear stays in Winnipeg and Edmonton. During the Winnipeg years, in addition to raising the boys, Marion enjoyed bowling and golfing. Summers were spent at their cabin with the Brown’s on Lake Superior and Ron’s parents cabin on Christopher Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. Annual winter vacations were often spent in the Caribbean or Hawaii. During the Edmonton years, summers were spent renovating the small, rustic log cabin on Moose Lake BC near Jasper. Throughout the empty nest years, Marion (Nini/Nina) and Ron loved visiting the grandchildren in Denver and in North Bay. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, cross country skiing, playing bridge, and was active in the Engineer’s Wives Association.
Marion’s final years were spent at Willow Cottage. Over the years Marion enjoyed visits with her boys (especially on her birthday), playing solitaire with her grandson Douglas (who lived in Edmonton for the final year of her life), and opportunities to visit with her grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren from Denver. Many thanks to the incredible caregivers at Willow Cottage who for 10+ years went the extra mile to ensure that Marion’s few needs (FaceTime calls, Bingo, & Ice Cream) were looked after.

For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but he is strong
