It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Matthew John Gross on October 13, 2026. Matthew is now peacefully reunited with his cherished wife of 49 years, Yvonne Mary Gross, who passed away on November 29, 2024. Matthew is survived by his children, Robert, Michelle, Warren (Sharon) and Connie; grandchildren, Hanna, Nathan, Emily, Kian, Isaac, Anna and Jernie, and his sister Mary and niece Joanne. Matthew was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Lena, and his twin brother, Michael.
Matthew, affectionately known as Matt, was born in Toronto, Ontario, and graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute as an Electrical Technologist. After graduating, Matt applied for a position as an electrician but was instead offered an opportunity to become a salesman. He said yes, a simple decision he said shaped the rest of his life.
That career opportunity brought Matt to Manitoba, where he met the love of his life, Yvonne, on March 8, 1975. Following a whirlwind courtship, they married August 16, 1975. Their honeymoon was anything but traditional, consisting of a drive from Winnipeg to Calgary, where Matt had been transferred for work. Their family began with the birth of their first child in 1978.
Matt dedicated 46 years of his life to Edwards, later known as Chubb, where he became a well-known and highly respected salesman. His outgoing personality and ability to connect with people made him someone who was not easily forgotten.
But Matt didn’t just work hard; he played hard too! With his love of fun, adventure and a cold Coors Light, Matt had an infectious personality that left a lasting impression on those who met him. Anywhere you went, someone knew Matt Gross. He was anything but ordinary. Matt will be remembered for his loving devotion to his family and friends, and his larger-than-life personality. Though Matt may no longer be with us, his stories, laughter and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Memories Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2026. A livestream of the service will be available at the time of service; to join, please click on the "join livestream" icon below under the "Services" heading.
