On March 17, 2019, Olga Zapernick peacefully passed away with all her children by her side. Olga was the most selfless human – if everyone was happy, so was she – all she asked in return were straight lines when cutting her lawn. Olga will forever be loved and remembered by her husband Bill of 64 years; sons Darrell (Lori), Rick (Diana), Perry (Elizabeth) and daughter Patti Bligh (Rob). She will be deeply missed by her loving grandchildren Carly, Joey, Jordan, Mackenzie (Sabrina), Alana and Will. Also left to mourn, her sister Rose Romaniuk along with many caring nieces, nephews and friends. Olga touched so many lives both in the hockey world and the insurance industry. If there was a party, it was always at mom’s house and she did ALL the cooking. She will always be Ma Zap to her Golden Bear Hockey Boys, and the most caring insurance broker in the industry. Her love for gardening was enjoyed by all who walked by her home commenting on her beautiful flower beds and well kept yard. In Riverbend she was known as the “geranium lady. ”Sunday dinners, Christmas Eve celebrations, and weekends at the lake will not be the same without her. A special thank you to all our nurses who cared for Mom these past 5 years .They were exceptionally kind and giving, making Mom’s life so full of love and comfort. Bhupinder “Marika”, Smisha, Virgie, Elana, and Josie.
We would also like to thank Dr. Doug Strilchuk for his wonderful care over the years as well as the nursing staff at Grey Nuns Hospital Ward 44. At Olga’s request, there will be a private family service.
Please join us for a “Celebration of Life” to honour her memory May 1, 2019 at the Royal Glenora Club from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. As Mom would want there to be enough food for all, please RSVP to [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation or Edmonton Humane Society.
