She leaves behind her children and their families, Brian (Mary Jane) Farrell, Sheila (Jonathan) Lakey and Neil Cunningham. As well as her stepchildren and their families, who she loved like her own, Rick (Wanda) McDonald, Kirk (Terena) McDonald, Heather (Murray) Stauffer, Steve (Renee) McDonald and Brendan McDonald. She is also survived by her sister and best friend Frankie Beeston, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many dear and caring friends. Pat was predeceased by her husband, John McDonald; her daughters, Marianne Cunningham, and Janice Ogilvie; her brother, David Wharton; her mom, Mary Wharton (Nana); stepson, Jim McDonald; step grandson, Jesse McDonald and first husband, Jack Farrell.
For many years, Pat was the church secretary at St. George's Anglican Church, Edmonton where many friends were made and cherished. Her love for children was fulfilled at Windsor Park After School Care as “Mrs. Pat”, a friend and care giver to hundreds of elementary school children. After retirement, she volunteered at the Misericordia Hospital where she took kindergarten schoolchildren on hospital tours. She took great pleasure in knitting hundreds of pairs of mittens for Edmonton schools.
Pat and her late husband, John, were very active in their retirement with many glorious days spent at the lake, at the golf course, bridge games with friends, and keeping track of their large blended family. She loved a good rummoli game at family get-togethers, as well as scrabble and Yahtzee with her grandkids at the lake.
The Family wishes to thank the healthcare workers who cared for mom in the last few months. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
