Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Prabha Bhasin, passed away on November 20, 2024 in Edmonton at the age of 85.
Prabha was born on June 25, 1939, in Shahjahanpur, India, to Emmanuel and Ivy David. She was the eldest of four children. Prabha completed her secondary education before attending Irwin Hospital, where she earned her nursing degree in 1962. In 1966, she moved to Canada to accept a position as a registered nurse at Swift Current Union Hospital.
In 1967, Prabha brought over her soul mate, Nand Bhasin, whom she had met in India and who later joined her in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They were married on September 2, 1967 at the Zion Mennonite Church. While living in Swift Current they had two daughters, Arti and Soniya. The couple eventually settled in Edmonton, Alberta in 1969 and went on to have their third daughter, Simmi.
Although Prabha had a quiet nature, she was renowned for her beautiful singing voice and was often asked to entertain at gatherings. She was also celebrated for her exceptional cooking skills, with recipes that were highly sought after and could win any cooking competition. Prabha’s love and compassion shone through in all aspects of her life, making her a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her nurturing character made her a natural caregiver, a trait that extended into her nursing career. Despite her busy life, Prabha always made time for everyone, offering unwavering support and love to her family. Prabha and Nand worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their children, proudly celebrating their accomplishments at every opportunity.
Prabha is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Nand Bhasin, her daughters Arti Siddiqui (Shakeeb Siddiqui), Soniya Bhasin (Daniel Read), and Simmi Bhasin; and her cherished grandchildren Nadia, Aisha, Alyssa, and Isabelle. She was preceded by her parents, Emmanuel and Ivy David, her brother Nirmal David, and her sister Anita Lohani.
