Rachana was born on January 26, 1958, in Calcutta, India, the youngest of five siblings. Upon completion of her education at the University of Calcutta and marrying her beloved husband, Pijush, she embarked on a new chapter arriving in Canada on a bright sunny day on September 7, 1982, where she created a life filled with love and joy.
Upon arrival in Canada, she ran a business named “Rachana’s Smoke Shop”. Upon the birth of her twin babies Ayan and Trisha, she sold her business and dedicated her life to raising her children. As her children grew, she went on to work as a sales associate and volunteered countless hours at the elementary schools. She loved connecting with others and would always help anyone who needed support. Her dedication to service was unparalleled.
Rachana’s radiant personality and infectious sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her. Her smile lit up every room she entered. Rachana loved travelling, reading, and hosting large dinner parties. She cherished the camaraderie of her “Three Musketeers” and "7 Heaven” group – especially their potluck picnics. She travelled the world with great enthusiasm and enjoyed the beauty of Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Europe, as well as the enchanting landscapes of India, notably the Andaman Islands.
Rachana was a dedicated member of the Edmonton Bengali community. She always looked forward to attending and participating in community gatherings and performances. Her contribution to the community leaves an impression of warmth, belonging, and comfort.
In Rachana’s later years, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her precious grandson, Ishan; she considered him as one of her greatest gifts in life. She was fortunate to enjoy several family trips in her later years, especially a trip to eastern Canada in 2023 where she made her famous lobster curry in Prince Edward Island.
Rachana is survived by her husband of 42 years Pijush, her son Ayan (Anjali), her daughter Trisha, and her grandson Ishan.
Rachana's life will be celebrated in a memorial service to be held on April 17th at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Rachana’s spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her. We will all remember her for the love she shared, the laughter she brought, and the countless lives she touched.
