It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert John Kolada at the age of 68, following a courageous battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer. Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife, Laurie; his daughter, Lindsay (Michael); and his mother, Jenny. He is also survived by his niece, nephew, two great-nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family meant everything to Bob. He was predeceased by his father, John, and his siblings, Blair and Barbara.
Bob dedicated 36 years of his career to Dow and, following his retirement, went on to establish his own consulting company. Born in Edmonton, Bob recently celebrated his 50th high school reunion with fellow alumni from Austin O’Brien High School.
Bob and Laurie shared a love of travel and were fortunate to experience many dream vacations together. Bob’s passions included music, golf, and hockey—most notably his lifelong support of the Edmonton Oilers, through good times and bad.
A strong believer in giving back, Bob was deeply community-minded and volunteered with numerous organizations. His involvement included fundraising initiatives, a world volunteer conference, the LPGA golf tournament, the Alberta Winter Games, and serving as a past member of the Board of Directors for the Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club. In recent years, he devoted much of his time to the Sandpiper Golf and Country Club.
Bob will be missed in countless ways. To know him was to love him.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation entrusted to Memories Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Cross Cancer Institute or a charity of your choice.
