Stephen Bernard Hughes, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on April 11th, 2024 in Edmonton at the age of 69. Born on June 5th, 1954 in Ottawa to Eleanor (nee Milks) and Bernard Hughes who have since passed on. Stephen was a man of great character and integrity whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Stephen is remembered by his children, Aia and Aaron (Angela); brothers Phred (Anne) and Shaun (Donna), and sister Kathy (Tom); grandchildren Caleb, Reagan, and Mila. Stephen was predeceased by his grandson Ayrton. His best buddy, Minou, will miss him dearly.
Stephen was a computer programmer pioneer and spent the majority of his career at the Edmonton Journal as a Systems Analyst. He was an environmental steward, enjoyed summers on The Hill for the Edmonton Folk Festival, and had a love for the written language.
Stephen will be laid to rest in the Aurora Gardens at the Northern Lights Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Edmonton Humane Society, a cause Stephen was passionate about.
