Thomas Bernard Coyne

Thomas Bernard "Bernie" Coyne, born February 7, 1958, in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 30, 2026. Bernie lived a life defined by hard work, adventure, generosity, and an unwavering love for family.

Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Kevin and Lily Coyne, and by his brothers, John, Kevin, Michael, and Bobby; as well as his brothers-in-law James Ottenbreit and Bill Hudyma.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Regan Coyne (Evan Veldhoen) and mother of his daughter, Sharon Clarke; his siblings, Mary Ottenbreit, Frances Hudyma, Kathleen Coyne, Timothy Coyne (Virginia), Patrick Coyne (Betty), Craena Coyne, and Chris Coyne (Sarah); his sisters-in-law, Maureen Coyne, Sharon Coyne, and Nadine Coyne; and by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends all of whom will cherish his memory.

In his decades-long career as an electrician Bernie's work helped shape communities across the North and Alberta. He took immense pride in doing the job right. Whether it was wiring a new home, fixing a vehicle, or simply lending a hand, family and friends knew they could always count on him.

Never one to shy away from a new adventure, Bernie later traded his tools for the open highway, becoming a long-haul truck driver. He loved the freedom of the road and the stories that came with it, hauling freight across Canada, the United States and the Canadian Ice Road. His adventurous spirit also drew him to the water and to destinations around the world. In his later years, he found companionship and adventure with his partner, Kylie, sharing time together in Florida and Ecuador

Above all else, Bernie's greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Regan. No matter where life took him, he was never far from the phone - ready with advice, to troubleshoot a problem, a laugh, or simply check in. He was overjoyed to welcome Regan's husband, Evan, into the family and admired the life they built together.

Bernie also found joy on the dance floor. For him, dancing was about more than the steps—it was about the music, the friendships, and the happiness it brought into his life.

Bernie will be remembered for his generous heart, steady hands, adventurous spirit, and the countless ways he quietly showed up for those he loved. If you knew Bernie, chances are you shared a coffee, worked on a project together, took a spin on the dance floor, or answered one of his many phone calls. He measured life not by possessions, but by the people he loved and the time he spent with them. His legacy lives on in every helping hand, every shared story, and every invitation to "grab coffee."

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honour Bernie's memory by calling an old friend, meeting someone for breakfast or coffee, lending a hand to a neighbour, or making a donation to Girl Guides of Canada - Edmonton Area Travel Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19, 2026 at Capilano Park, Picnic Site 1 at 11:00 am. Please bring a lawn chair. Interment to follow at Jarvie Catholic Cemetery.
