

Gilbert Ronald Gourley, age 78, died at Alpine View Lodge in Alpine, CA. on Monday September 22, 2014. He was born on September 19, 1936 in Dover, DE. He graduated from Ceasar Rodney High School in Dover in 1954. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1955 and retired as a Master Chief after 24 years of service. After retiring, he went to work for Pacific Bell in San Diego and Imperial Counties, where he retired after 24 years.
He was an active member of the Swiss Club of Imperial Valley, where he served as President in 2000. He was also a member of the Gem and Mineral Society. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golf, rock hounding, gold prospecting, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Lillian of 55 years, his daughter Lynnda Bentley (Greg), son David Gourley (Denise), daughter Sandy Nokes (Mike) and daughter Heidi Manley (Justin). Grandchildren: Erica Love (Brock), Dalton and Delanie Gourley, Jennifer and Savannah Nokes, Ryan and Adam Manley, and one great granddaughter, Gillian Love. He is also survived by two brothers, Allen Gourley of Jacksonville, FL. and Joe Gourley of Magnolia, DE. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Matthew Gourley in 2007, brothers and sisters Sam Gourley, June Nance, Jean Walters, Phyllis Simpson and Jack Gourley.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 2569 W. Victoria Drive, Alpine, CA. 91901
Gilbert's family would like to thank Linda Cioffi and her staff at Alpine View Lodge for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
