Obituary

Leona Madeline Roe was born near Belknap, Iowa, on July 2, 1915, the daughter of Lewis & Mary Amelang. She was reared in rural Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. She graduated valedictorian from Hedrick High School in Iowa in 1933, and later graduated from Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha, NE. Leona worked on B17's as Rosie the Riveter at Douglas Aircraft at the beginning of WWII.
Leona was united in marriage with Edward August Roe on October 24, 1941 in Seattle, Washington.  Edward was deployed to Pearl Harbor three days after their wedding.  He survived the December 7 attack and served throughout the war in the South Pacific.
In September of 1945, Edward was discharged from the Navy and they made their home north of Omaha, Nebraska, where they reared their three daughters and Edward co-founded ROE Machine & Pattern Works.  Leona was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 
Leona was preceded in death by her husband Edward.  Survivors include her daughters Leslie Hackley of San Diego, CA; Shirley Shermer of Lincoln, NE and Frances Thompson of Chillicothe, MO; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
After Edward's death, Leona moved to San Diego to be near her daughter, Leslie Hackley.  Leona was a member of Palisades Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed the church's outreach to her with visits from her pastor and church elders and copies of the services via DVD. 
Her pleasant manner and cheerfulness will be missed by all who knew her.
