

Patricia Frances Brown was born on February 18, 1926, in Richwood, West Virginia, to her loving parents, Durward and Violet Evans. Growing up during the Great Depression, Patricia graduated from high school and played a key role during World War II by assisting with correspondence in Washington, D.C. She married her husband after he left the service, and they eventually moved to California.
Patricia initially worked at a travel lodge but later helped her husband run the hardware store they owned together, dedicating 30 years of her life to this endeavor. Throughout her life, she was known for her incredible work ethic.
She was skilled in sewing, capable of making her own clothing, and enjoyed needlepoint. Patricia was also renowned for her exceptional cooking, with some of her most cherished recipes being her applesauce and apple pies.
A deeply generous person, Patricia donated to many causes throughout her life. She volunteered at the Home of Guiding Hands, which provides support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in San Diego and East County. Additionally, she was an active member of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States, founded in 1776. Membership in this society is a mark of distinction, recognizing and encouraging scholarship, friendship, and cultural interests in the liberal arts and sciences.
On April 2, 2025, Patricia Frances Brown passed away in San Diego, California. She is survived by her daughters Lizbeth Ann Summers and Rebecca Jane Mitchell, son-in-law Richard Mitchell, grandson-in-law Dan, great-grandson-in-law Chaz, grandchildren Justin, Jocelyn, Brinna, and Evan, and great-grandchildren Rhys, Druw, Kaleigh, Olivia, and Emma.
Patricia will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
