Shirley loved nature and would always stop and admire the flowers.

The platitude that a deceased person is “now out of pain” is one I’ve always sworn never to use. And yet, here, faced with the reality of the passing of my sister Shirley, I’m grudgingly admitting that in this case it’s true. Shirley was, in addition to being affectionate and kind, a whirlwind of activity, devoted to getting things done, and done well, to the best of her ability, both on the domestic level and throughout the larger communities where, as a medical professional and as a member of the military, she performed her duties with skill and devotion. The affliction that confined her to a wheelchair in her later years was indeed cruel and painful in the extreme. She is now released. And the world is a noticeably lesser place.——Michael Sexson

Aunt Shirley LOVED animals. All animals. My favorite memory of her is feeding the tortoise in the back yard behind the pool. She would save special food for it. The order of the house was; dogs, tortoise, rabbits, all other animals, kids, adults- in that order! All events were at her house and she never fussed about having to take care of everything and everyone. I never saw her without Aunt Tudy next to her ( seriously, never). Woah- a full life, for sure. My heart goes out to her girls: Jackie, Michelle &  Julianna, Erin, and  Morgan.  She will be missed. xo, Vanessa

I love my “Mama, Shirley” She always treated me like one of her own.  I probably challenged her just like one of her own too!
