He died of progressive supranuclear palsy. PSP is a uncommon crippling brain disorder.
Stephen Joseph Stanley was born on May 24, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. He was the firstborn of Dean Francis Stanley and Marilynn Milbourne Stanley.
Steve grew up in Oak Lawn, Illinois, and graduated from Sward Elementary School in Oak Lawn in 1959, Eisenhower High School in Blue Island in 1963 and Northern Illinois University in 1967. He later earned a master’s degree in education from San Diego State University.
Steve spent most of his adult life in Southern California and Brazil. As a boy he liked to fish. As an adult he enjoyed travel and fine dining. Steve is remembered as a man who could be relied on to fulfill his commitments, and who loved others in his own ways.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Dean Christopher Stanley, as well as Dean Christopher’s son, Christopher. Steve is survived by his sons, Dean Craig and William, his brother Charles of Ottawa, Illinois, and sister Mary, of Hayward, Wisconsin, as well as his nephew, Michael Wozniak and nieces Katherine Stanley and Alice Stanley as well as, of course, his many extended family members and friends.
There will be no service. Steve will be buried with his parents in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.
