Born April 5, 1947 in El Dorado, he was the son of Harvey Edward and Effie Jane Clifton Atkins. Butch was the proud owner and operator of Atkins Electric Co., Inc. until he retired in 2017. He was a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, and a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Butch honorably served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during battle and a Bronze Star for his heroic service to our country. He was member of West Side Baptist Church where he attended the Adult 5 Sunday School Class. Butch also enjoyed several years of playing his baritone in the church orchestra.
Preceding him in death along with his parents was a grandson, Eli Atkins.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia Lawrence Atkins of El Dorado; a daughter, April Madding and her children, Sydnee, Marla and Ryland Madding; a son, Brennan Atkins and his children, Gia Atkins and Shelbie Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Livi Blackwell, Maddi and Mollie Jones; a sister, Bonnie Walthall (Russell) of El Dorado; a brother, Ricky Atkins (Debbie) of Lonoke, AR; and a sister, Paulette Stringfellow of El Dorado. Butch’s love for God and family never wavered. He was proud of his entire family including his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2021 at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Cody Lain officiating with military honors to follow. Visitation with the family will be held immediately following the service.
A private interment will be held later at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
