Edgar Eugene Johnson Jr.

Edgar Eugene (Gene) Johnson, Jr. passed away Sunday, October 23 at Life Touch Hospice. He was born August 20, 1927 in Grand Bayou, LA. Gene taught elementary school at Yocum Elementary beginning in 1953. He was a principal at Smith Avenue Elementary and then for 32 years at Northwest Elementary. He got his BSE at Henderson State Teachers College and an MSE from the University of Arkansas. He is a Navy veteran of WWII serving his tour of duty in China. Gene was a Charter member of the El Dorado Civitan Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 55 years, Dorris Fay Johnson. If there were ever two people who became one in marriage, it was Gene and Dorris Fay. Also preceding in death are three sisters and a brother.

Surviving Gene are his two sons, Edgar Eugene Johnson III (Katrinka) of Houston, TX and Patrick Lynn Johnson (Susan) of El Dorado. Gene loved his six grandchildren, Shannon Johnson, Alexandra Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Edgar Johnson, Benjamin Johnson and Leo Johnson.

Visitation will be Monday, October 24, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Young’s.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 25 at First Baptist Church in El Dorado with Bro. Brian Trostle officiating. Interment will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
