Born in Waverly Missouri in 1928 to Hobart and Bernice Harmon, Hazel Irene Ramey was raised in Evansville Indiana. After graduation from Reitz high school she married her childhood sweetheart Robert Ramey. She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother to her two sons, Bob and Don. Her love of family was only exceeded by her love of God. After raising their family in Evansville, Robert and Irene moved to El Dorado in 1977 and joined Murmil Baptist church. Education was always of great importance to Irene and she was involved as a teacher at Murmil for many years. Her dedication to God, family, and teaching was followed by her love of music. She had spend her childhood singing and playing the steel guitar and she took lessons from Joanne Smith on the piano and organ in order to play in church and later to accompany the Golden Keys, a singing group of which she and Robert were members.
In 1997 she and Robert joined The Master’s Builders, and traveled the country building and rebuilding churches, leading devotions, and pursuing her lifelong love of cooking for the other members of the group.
Preceded in death by her parents and son Don, Irene is survived by her husband of 69 years Robert Ramey, a son Bob Ramey and wife Cheryl, a daughter in law Pat Ramey, grandchildren Heather Yonce and husband Cecil and Ben Ramey, and great grandchildren Rachel and Kyle DeVane.
