So sorry to hear about Joe, prayers to the family. He will be missed much by me as I have known him for over 30 years. Will miss those trips to his barber shop, where he was always upbeat and kept his customers intertained with many jokes and stories.

So sorry to hear about Joe's passing.
My Dad had his hair cut from Joe's Dad, then he cut mine as well.
When Mr. Avery retired Joe cut my hair and my three boys.
I used to shine shoes for a dime when I was much younger and needed a quarter for the movies.
Joe was always full of jokes. Most I had heard  several times before, but they were always funny.
We have moved from El Dorado and won't be able to attend the funeral.
We'll keep them all in our prayers.

I have so many good memories of Mr Joe...  I'll share one.
Back when I was younger he invited me to a duck hunt. I had never been to a private duck blind hunt, I'd only ever hunted in Felsenthal.  So I told him I would come. I was so excited! I drove over to lake village and we had a blast! Shot ducks, but mostly just had a heck of a time shooting the crap and watching the dog work. Oh, and he told me where to step, I missed that step, hit a ditch and flooded my boots... hahaha... It's a memory I'll definitely never forget. He will truly be missed...

Marilyn and the Avery family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Joe was a very special man and I know he will be greatly missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

He had so many tales, but so little time. A few were exaggerated, but most were true. Crappie longer than your arm and ice chests full of bream - the ‘slab’ kind. The best fishing spots in the south? Joe knew. Record buck deer and sacks full of doves. Everyone was welcome, you could go too. There were fox squirrels as big as a house cat - a few bigger than that. Who shot that mallard duck, was it me or was it you? Couldn’t be me, I can’t hit the side of the house. Tom turkey called in from over a mile. Trot lines, tight lines, and yo-yo’s too. We paid for the haircut, but we came for the fellowship - it was free of charge. He’d say, “Don’t leave yet, I haven’t told you everything I know.” I’ll forever cherish the memories. Walk the chalk line, Joe. 


Joe,you and i grew up at the boys club together,playing for Mr. Allen Perdue and Vantrease Methodist,we shared lots of memories over the years,you will certainly be missed my brother.

Joe was a friendly, a caring friend to us lady's at Joe's store on hwy 82. Will miss his joking around and smiles too. Rest with Lord and I will miss you dearly Joe ( money bags )!Rest in peace!!!

Mr. Joe was a great man. He cut my hair every time it has ever been cut until the last year or so. My family loved him very much. We looked forward to his visits, he delivered 100’s of pounds of fresh produce from the garden over the years. He even shelled our peas after he picked them. He would bring us fresh fish after he cleaned them. He truly had a servants heart. I enjoyed helping him in the garden last year, not sure I did it to suit him but we made a decent run at it anyway. He will be greatly missed.

I remember my dad taking me to this man for haircuts as a kid. He had the coolest black lab that would fetch me soda pop out the cooler and his “play dead” trick. Joe would always get me with that rattlesnake in a can on his shelf. He was a good man he will be missed

May beautiful memories sustain you and may you be comforted by the love shown from family and friends.  

Many good memories from childhood to college at Southern State. RIP old friend.

Mr. Joe was the first barber to cut my stepson, Alan Sinclair's hair and my son Will Sinclair's hair!! He cut my husband, Camp Sinclair's hair and my father, Louis Donahue's hair.  Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family, friends, and customers. He will be greatly missed in our community.

Marilyn and family I am so very sorry for your loss - I will be praying for y’all in the coming days

I couldn’t tell you how many times I sat in that chair. Dad took me and I took my son to Joe.  He was always great it may seem small to some people, but making a kid light up in the chair when they don’t want to be there takes a special person. Then I met his family teaching such a great group of people. I’ll be praying for all of you.

My condolences to the family. My children and I knew Mr. Joe from “the barn”. My daughter Kaci rode his horse, a little red Passafno, and placed several times. She as well as he was so so happy.     He spent a lot of time with the kids back then.  He was surely a good man. Myself and My kids, Ka ci and Murry,  sure thought. Lot of him. I’ll always remember his witty humor and his way with animals. His dog Bo, he was something else. Thoughts and prayers for you all. 💕

Gosh many many hair cuts from that man great person good friend . My papaw and Joe we're a pair to see when we went for haircuts they would cut up and talk bought the old days I loved it

YOU WILL BE MISSED

I used to work next door to Mr. Avery when I was in High School. I would go visit him everyday on my way in to work. I always left laughing.  He used to save all his change In coffee cans and once a year I would take it and cash it in for him. 

Sandra Gibson Herrod and I (Sherry Gibson)  want to express our sympathy at the death of Joe.  

We will always remember all the tall tales (stories) he told (you didn't know whether to believe him or not).  He always wanted to make people happy. 

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.  




I loved sitting in that barber chair and listening to all his stories.  Never a dull moment in that shop.  I loved Joe and I will miss him greatly.  I will hold him in my heart forever.  

To the family I know that no words will easy your loss but you will be in my thoughts.
