Otha Lon Hawkins, 88, of El Dorado, was called home on Thursday, June 7 at Life Touch's John R Williamson Hospice House. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Alice Jeter Hawkins; his two sons Grant Hawkins and Adam Hawkins both of Little Rock; his 5 daughters Cynthia Renfroe of Little Rock; Shauna Mitchell of Columbia, TN; Melissa Simpson of Decatur, AL; Nancy Williams and Norma King both of El Dorado; seventeen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Otha was born in Newton, Kansas on September 9, 1929 to the late Robert Henry Hawkins and Edna Faye Lyons Hawkins. He attended Wichita State University then worked at Zales Jewelers before opening his own store. He owned Hawkins Jewelers, Inc. in El Dorado and Camden for over 30 years. Otha was an avid fisherman, and he was a member of the El Dorado Bass Club. In addition, he was very active in his church, Parkers Chapel First Baptist. He served on the benevolence committee and tended to the grounds for many years.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 11 from 1:00-2:00. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 11, 2018. The funeral and visitation will be held at Parkers Chapel First Baptist Church with Bros. Larry Hudson, Ron Williamson, and Johnny Parrack conducting the service. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
