

Sarah’s life was one of giving to others. She graduated from high school in El Dorado and later received her BS in Nursing from Texas Women’s University with hospital work in Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She had varied work experience in nursing. She was an operating room nurse at SW General Hospital in El Paso and during summers at home she worked the surgical floor at Union Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
She enlisted in the U. S. Navy and went on active duty as a charge nurse in the Recovery Room at Oakland Navy Hospital burn unit in California. She moved into the Navy Nurse Corps Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
She moved on to help children. She received a School Certificate for teaching multiple handicapped children from SAU. She received further special education training at UCA in Conway. Working first as a special education teacher in the Dallas school system, she also worked in summer camps for crippled children.
On her return to El Dorado she worked at Bozeman Park School for the handicapped. She later did Home Health nursing with Union Medical and as a treatment nurse at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home.
She cared for her parents and a cousin until their deaths. Her life was truly a life of caring and giving to others. She was a longtime member of Vantrease Methodist Church and later St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Earl Baker; and great nephew, George Timothy Britt, II.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Loraine Baker Curtis (Ronnie); sister-in-law, Alice Marie Baker both of El Dorado; three nieces, Kim Baker Britt, Deede Curtis Witherington, Heather Curtis Shoup; two nephews, Keith Baker, Marc Baker; four great nieces and nephews, Katherine Britt, Keith Britt, Clint Witherington, Alivia Shoup; and one great-great nephew, Kash Britt.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Young’s Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Young’s Chapel with Rev. Winston Roden officiating. Burial will follow at Fredonia Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
