William “Wayne” Shelton of El Dorado, AR; passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Silver Oaks Heath and Rehabilitation Center in Camden, AR. Wayne was born on September 27, 1938 in Vernon, Alabama to Ila May Watkins Shelton and Coy Lee Shelton.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp for 4 years. After retiring from a 31 year career at Sears, he opened his own business, Shelton Home Improvements, which he owned and operated for over 25 years.
He was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. He loved playing the bass guitar in that church, and in his spare time he played with the Mid South Gospel Quartet, along with other gospel groups, and at several hundred revivals with the Evangelist and dear friend Jimmy Dell. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Linda Shelton, her son Eric Wheatley and his wife Maurie, grandsons Evan Wheatley and his wife Margaret, and Easton Wheatley, and her daughter Janie Wheatley; her sister Mary Langley and husband James. His son Darin Shelton, and his wife Jody, with grandson Andrew Shelton; three sisters, Jessie Wheeler of Vernon, AL., Betty Jack of Monroe, LA., Jo Anna Tanner and her husband Flynn of Brandon, MS. and brother James Shelton and his wife Agnis, Monroe, LA., along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2019 in the Chapel of Young’s Funeral Directors with Rev. Lawrence Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services. Interment will be at Smyrna Cemetery.
