Dr. Alejandro Lizárraga passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on January 11, 2021 at the age of 88. He was born in El Paso in 1932. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Grade School, Cathedral High School, Texas Western College, and medical school UNAM (Mexico City). He was a Korea war-era army veteran. He practiced medicine in Ciudad Juarez and Oklahoma. Known as Alex by his friends, he and his wife were devout Catholics, active in the Serra Club, the UTEP Newman Center, and his respective parishes of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Holy Family Catholic Church. He is dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Magdalena Madrigal Lizárraga, when he was ten years old. He was raised lovingly by his stepmother, Eustolia (d. 1996). His father Alejandro G. Lizárraga passed away in 1993. His loving wife, Herminia (Minnie) Saucedo Lizárraga preceded him on their eternal spiritual journey in 2012; his grandson Alex, in 2017.
He is survived by his six children: Laura Adauto, Marcos (Cissy), Martin (Rosana), Miguel (Ofelia), Claudia Meserole (Craig), and Daniel (Joy). He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday February 5, 2021 at Martin Funeral Home West: 128 N. Resler Drive, El Paso, Texas 79912, (915) 584-1234. Catholic burial mass, and graveside services at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Army Military Honors, will follow at a later date because of the pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Dr. Alejandro M. Lizárraga (Class of 1950) may be made to Cathedral High School.
