We celebrate the life of Amy Alison Gomez, whose life was painted in shades of joy, resilience, and unshakeable faith. Amy passed away on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on March 8, 1964, to Jack Gaines and Alice "Gene" Gaines, she spent her life proving that beauty is something you create with your own two hands. An artist at heart, Amy found divinity in the details. To her family, Amy was a force of nature. She championed her family with a love that was both tender and fierce, embodying the values of service and perseverance. She believed in the sanctity of home, turning every holiday into a production where magic was felt by everyone who crossed her threshold. Her kindness extended to all creatures, especially her dogs, who found in her a lifelong friend. She filled her home with laughter, music, and openness.
Amy is survived by her husband, Herman Gomez; her three children, Grace Gomez, Herman Benjamin Gomez, and Jacqueline Swopes, her son-in-law, Paul Swopes, her grandchildren, Audrey and Andrew Swopes, her older sisters, Benja Haberlein, Nancy Gaines, Jackie Gaines, her nephew, Gene Haberlein, and the hundreds of extended family, friends, and neighbors whose lives were brightened by her presence.
A service to honor Amy’s life will be held at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Humane Society of El Paso in her honor—a tribute to her lifelong love for pets.
