Andrés "Andy" Maldonado, beloved husband, father, grandlather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 12, 1944, in El Paso, Texas, Andy lived a long life surrounded by family, familiar routines, and the comforts of home.
Andy is survived by his devoted wife, Connie, his children Andrés, Danny, Berta, Gloria, and Angie, and his two stepsons, Eddie and Jesse Tarin. He was a proud grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather to 7 children, all of whom brought him joy throughout his life.
A longtime resident of El Paso, Andy worked for EPISD as a custodian and is remembered by his loved ones for his sincerity, gentle demeanor, and the traditions he unknowingly created.
One of the most cherished family memories is his heartfelt version of the bedtime prayer, "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep," which he recited with the line "a bag of peanuts at my feet." Though he believed this was the original wording, his family adopted it with love, and it has since become a treasured part of family history.
Andy's life was marked by simplicity, love, and the quiet moments that defined him. His presence will be missed deeply, and the stories and traditions he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to those who loved him.
Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep, with a bag of peanuts at my feet.
If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.
-Adapted Version by Andy Maldonado
