Mando grew up in El Paso, one of 4 siblings born to Juan and Zenona, but the most sarcastic. All of his children and grandchildren would agree. But it was his honesty and dependability that Lupe was attracted to. From 1963 on, they created a lasting friendship and love that stayed strong through war, separation, and children. Regular letters from Mando kept Lupe strong, and the will to see his newborn kept him going. They cultivated lasting friendships and a healthy environment to raise their 3 daughters who became strong, loving mothers. Jokes were told, lessons learned, and the best qualities of Mando were adopted by not only Sylvia, Gracie, and Sonia, but also his 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The Olivas family continues to grow, sharing his love, humor, and integrity. The friendships he made were long lasting. His personality has no doubt influenced those he has interacted with and shines with positivity and good nature. You would have a very hard time finding someone who did not love or respect him. Mando was a proud Vietnam veteran and a responsible father figure to so many people. He was a coach, a mentor, a caring individual, and a model to those that knew him and he will continue to be a strong presence in all of us. His inurnment will be held at Ft. Bliss Cemetery on April 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
