Born on October 4, 1929, Blanche graduated from Brownwood High School, in Brownwood, Texas. She devoted much of her life to raising her family as a dedicated at-home mother while also nurturing her artistic talents. A gifted pastel portrait artist, Blanche’s work was recognized and admired, most notably her portrait of a Native American Indian that hung in The Dome Bar of the historic Hotel Paso Del Norte. She was active in the El Paso and Lower Valley Art Associations, reflecting her deep commitment to the arts community.
Blanche found joy in many pursuits throughout her life. As a young mother, she loved gardening and later explored various artistic mediums including watercolor and oil painting. Her passion for music and dance remained vibrant into her later years; she was a graceful ballroom dancer who delighted in the waltz, tango, foxtrot, and the quickstep. She attended senior citizens dances weekly and was known for her ready smile and good sense of humor. An avid reader and lifelong music lover, Blanche’s cozy house was filled with interesting discussions and lovely melodies.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Melissa Wiseman, Thomas H. Springer, Sarah Riley (Brian) and David H. Springer (Kristin); her brother Fred Westerman (Melba), her sister Jill Cunningham; and many others whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Springer; parents Hill and Louise Westerman; sister Sue Fields; and grandson Matthew Pepe.
A funeral service will be held at Crestview Funeral Home on Monday, May 5 at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
May Blanche’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
