

Carl W. Dawson, 89, a loving husband, father and brother, passed away on June 13. Born in New Mexico as the second oldest of ten children to Carl and Mollie Cavender Dawson, Carl lived nearly all of his life in El Paso. Known as "Dogie" in his younger days, he graduated from Ysleta High School in 1938, where he was part of over 20 consecutive years of Dawsons attending Ysleta. Carl was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II including a stint in the Panama Canal Zone. He spent 40 plus successful years as a salesman of heavy equipment for several El Paso area dealers, spending most of his career with Rust Tractor Company. Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Trudy. He was also preceded by brothers Bob , Larry and Bill Dawson and sisters Dee Merriman and Judy Goodwin. He is survived by his son Tom and wife Sue of El Paso, daughter Sue Herrman and husband, Steve of Nashville, TN, grandson Ryan Dawson of Hermosa Beach, CA, and sisters Dorothy Carpenter of Augusta, GA, Doris Hicks of El Paso, Babs Rogers and husband Gerald of Ransom Canyon, TX and Betty Mills and husband Bill of Tigard, OR. He is also survived by Paz Ortiz de Soto, a faithful and caring housekeeper and companion to the family for 48 years.Special thanks to the caring people of Community Healthcare, Horizon Healthcare Center and Hospice El Paso, all of which were so helpful during his final months. Carl was known to all in his Mission Hills neighborhood as the man constantly walking his two dogs, Bud and Miller, also known as the Lite Brothers. Carl Dawson was a special man who loved living life, having fun, and taking care of everyone else. He will be sorely missed, but the memories and stories he created will live on. Family gathering will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Martin Funeral Home West. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley, Santa Teresa, NM.
