

Charles was born to Elmer and Beatrice Reid on December 16, 1928 in El Paso, Texas. His mother Beatrice, suffering from tuberculosis, hired a young lady, Madge, to provide care for the infant Charles. Beatrice passed away when Charles was 19 months old. Elmer ultimately married Madge and together they raised two sons, Charles and Richard, and daughter Jean Anne.
Charles graduated from Ysleta High School in El Paso, TX. in 1946. He enlisted into the Navy in 1952 and worked as an airplane electrician in Hutchinson, KS. He met Edwina during his tour in KS, and they married in 1955. Charles was transferred to San Francisco, CA in 1956, where he completed his active service, was honorably discharged and transitioned to inactive duty. He completed his inactive duty with the Navy in 1960.
Having experienced a young life of uncertainty, Charles was determined to provide a stable, secure environment for his family. Charles and his family moved back to El Paso, TX. where Charles secured a Civil Service position at Ft Bliss as an electrician. Charles and Edwina raised three boys, Mark, Byron and Brandon.
Charles joined the Wallace Hughston Masonic Lodge in El Paso in 1962, where he made many good friends and held various esteemed positions. He was presented a certificate of appreciation for more than sixty years of being a Master Mason in 2022.
Charles was also a member of the Tobin Park United Methodist Church since 1966.
Charles retired from Civil Service at the age of 68, after 40 years of service. He then took a part time job as a parts runner for an automotive parts retailer for another 20 years.
Charles is survived by his sons Mark Reid, Byron Reid and Brandon Reid, and his step sister Molly Holnaider. He is predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Beatrice Reid as well as his adoptive mother Madge; his half sister Jean Anne, and his half brother Richard.
Services for Charles will be held in El Paso, TX. The viewing will take place Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Funeraria del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer St. from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. A grave site service will take place at Ft. Bliss, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave on Friday, October 20 at 9:00 a.m.
