Cora Edith Brubaker Lewis was born on September 10, 1928, in Flint, MI, and she passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 96. For the last year of her life, Cora resided in Dallas, Texas, with her daughter, Connie Lewis Callison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd R Lewis. 

Cora spent her early years in Capitan, NM, before moving to Kalamazoo, MI. After his military service, she met Lloyd, a WWII Navy veteran, in high school. The couple married in 1947 in Kalamazoo. In 1955, they moved to El Paso, TX, where they raised their children, daughter Connie and son John.

Cora and Lloyd were charter members of Mountain View Baptist Church and later became members of Grandview Baptist Church and Sunrise Baptist Church. After Cora retired from the El Paso ISD and Lloyd retired from Civil Service at Fort Bliss, the couple moved to Timberon, NM. Tragically, Lloyd died in 1994 in a train and automobile accident in Orogrande, NM. Following his death, Cora returned to El Paso, where she was an active member of 1st Baptist Church.

In 2003, Cora moved to Austin, TX, where she lived until 2024. In Austin, she was actively involved with Anderson Mill Baptist Church. The last year of her life, she resided at Sunrise Hillcrest Assisted Living in Dallas, where she passed away of natural causes.

Cora and Lloyd had 3 children: daughters Connie, Bonnie, who passed away during childbirth, and son John. She is survived by her daughter Connie and husband, Jack Callison, of Dallas; her son John and wife, June Bullock Lewis, of Austin; and 5 grandchildren: Jack Jr. and wife, Meredith, of Virginia; Brian and wife, Tammy, of the Dallas area; John Jr. of Charleston, SC; Jill of Albuquerque; and Jessie and wife, Rebecca, of Eugene, OR. Cora also has 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Cora was buried in Fort Bliss National Cemetery on May 12th. The family expresses gratitude to the staff at The Point in Cedar Park, TX, and Sunrise Hillcrest in Dallas.
