

Cruz “El Cuy” Roman passed away peacefully Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the age of 84. Surrounded by loved ones he joined his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Catalina (Cata), and beloved daughter Cecilia in heaven. From humble beginnings, he was a first generation US citizen from Smelter (La Smelda), Texas and the youngest of 8 siblings born to Cruz and Vaudelia Roman.
Proud graduate of La Bowie High School, he honorably served in the US Army, followed by various vocations to include lifeguard/instructor at La Frontera swimming pool in Segundo Barrio, night shift smelting work at Asarco, detention officer at the El Paso Juvenile Detention Center, and General Service Administrator. His proudest accomplishment was retiring from the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) as a Detention Officer, along with his love, Cata, who retired as an Immigration Officer. He was truly an inspiration to everyone he coached in boxing, swimming, and sports and will forever live on in our hearts and the hearts of many. He will be remembered as a hardworking and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather with fascinating stories about the rich adventures he lived.
Survived by his son Jaime Roman, grandson Sam, granddaughters Adrienne, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Patricia, Victoria, Kathleen, 9 great grandchildren, and beloved extended family.
The family invites you to join us in celebrating his life on 9/16/2018 from 5-9 PM, with Rosary at 7 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr. Mass will be 9/17/2018, at 10 AM at Santo Nino de Atocha Church, 210 S. Clark Dr. Interment alongside his love Cata will be at a later date, at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. God Bless.
