Dottie Black began her eternal life September 3, 2018. A wonderful life well lived, faithful, loved and loving. Dorothy Marie Carter Black was born in Lake Charles, LA on August 1, 1923, the daughter of Cap and Minnie Carter. She grew up in south Texas where her father worked for Humble Oil on the pipeline. She attended and graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1941. Her RN degree was completed at the UT School of Nursing in Galveston in 1944, where she met and fell madly in love with her husband, Gordon. They married at First Presbyterian Church El Paso on November 11, 1945, spending the month in San Diego before he deployed to the US Navy in the South Pacific. They moved to Rochester, NY upon his honorable discharge in 1946 where he began his Radiology Residency. She was employed as a secretary by the Atomic Energy Commission which became the Manhattan Project. They returned to El Paso where Gordon began his long association with Radiology and Pathology Consultants. She gave her time and talents to many organizations, actively participating in each PTA of her children’s schools, Young Matrons, Board of the Ronald McDonald house, El Paso Christian Home for Girls, the El Paso County Medical Auxiliary, and PEO Chapter N. Dottie loved to sing and belonged to the “Medilarks”. Her Christian faith was her guide to a beautiful life, as an active member and officer of the Presbyterian Church, helping to organize Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, long time member of Meneely and First Presbyterian Churches in El Paso, taking such joy singing in both choirs.
Predeceasing Dottie were her son, Daniel (1993), her parents, Minnie (2000), Cap (2001), and her beloved Gordon in 2017 after 72 years of marriage. She is survived by her children: Diana Lee (El Paso), John Carter (George West, TX), and Linda Louise (El Paso). Other survivors include her grandchildren: Shauna Lee Bryant (Roanoke), James Travis Hotop (Front Royal) , Jody Black Churchman (Austin), Paul Carter Black (Martindale), Randall Curtis Black (Austin) and Alanna Marie Black-Smith (Houston). There are five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
